Hi all

I'm fairly new to mumsnet but have found it a massive help with bfing and becoming a mum - so hello all.

I'm currently bf my 4 mo old dd and my original plan was to stop bf at 6 months. I know the advice is to carry on for longer but really just want to get my body back, get a nights' sleep and wear a decent bra (currently feel really frumpy due to crappy nursing bras).

But we've now booked a holiday to Majorca in May when dd will be 6.5 mo old. I'm now feeling confused about what to do for the best - stop bfing or not - and think I'm obsessing about this as well. Husband is not much help as says he'll support my decision whatever i decide.

If I carry on it will be much easier from a faffing point of view but was really looking forwards to having a proper drink - am seriously missing wine - and the thought of wearing a bikini when bfing fills me with dread. All my reasons for stopping seem so shallow but every day I feel crap about myself as have to dress for boob access and deal with dreadful bras.

Has anyone else stopped at 6mo - how was it? and how did you managed on holiday with ff?

Thanks for any advice - just feel that I need some perspective on this and sorry for the waffle

Oh darn I got my maths all wrong, I thought I was out somewhere...

That would be 5.67 litres of pure alcohol or 45 litres of 15% wine.

Thanks for the kiss glad people like the stats!

Obviously it's playing with silly figures, even if you could feed a baby for a whole day with over the drink drive limit milk you'd still not give them as much as gripe water.

Most important thing to limit yourself to is your ability to care for your children.

Bertie, I know but it's something that poeple can relate to.

You can get away with a bikini !!!
People would run for the hills screaming if they saw me heading for the pool In a bikini !

Stick with the BFing until after the holiday.

Otherwise it will be so difficult; you'll have to worry about taking the milk on the plane (the security issue), using water that isn't treated to the high standards with have in the UK, sterilising, having to get back to the hotel to prepare a new bottle because the milk will go off quickly in a warm climate, your dd getting dehydrated in a warm climate. Frankly, it sounds dangerous!

You will have a more relaxing holiday if you BF. I holidayed when my dd2 was only four months and I quite often got out of the pool to give her a feed. I just covered up with a towel. And, despite being in a location where non of the other Brits were breastfeeding (The germans were, though) I didn't feel awkward. I just looked at the other babies who had that horribly pasty formular fed look to them and thought that my dd looked beautiful in comparison.

And I had the better shape! (But would never subject the world to my tummy in a bikini!)

And I slept like a log; lots of BFing, lots of sun, lots of swimming and quite a bit of alcohol. (Well, the amount that you can still look after two children on)

Oh, the following year we were back and my dd2 was about 18months. She by then loved British formula but refused to drink spanish formula. We ended up making her milkshakes to get through the 20quid of ready mixed formula we had bought.

Plus, in Spain you have to get formula from a pharmacy and it costs a fortune!

thanks for this thread - it's helped me make my mind up on BF and travelling as well. I'm off to Oz in October with my DS who will be 9 months. I'd planned to tail off bf from 6 months but think will carry on until at least after hols as will be so much easier (and I'm looking forward to a bikini with something other than a flat chest!)

Thanks for this thread - I'm going to pour myself a G&T and pretend I'm on holiday.
