Colief and breastfeeding

8 week old DD is really suffering with her stomach, she is so windy and cries everyday from about 6pm.

I have just bought Colief and read that you have to express a little milk and mix the Colief with it. It sounds like quite a bit of a faff (well, I have never expressed..), is there an easier way of administering the drops?

And did it work for your babies?

Thank you!

I've recently posted about this because I agree it's a pain.

Unfortunately I've not found an easier way of doing things so I express in a morning and then use that throughout the day. DS does seem more settled and seems to be able to sleep better as well.

Good luck

I would suggest using a different colic relief thing. I used the Infacol as it's just a dropper that you give before feeding. No expressing or spoons or anything.

ditto infacol

cheaper too iirc

DD is already on Infacol, which helps her get the wind out.

She does fart an awful lot and is in pain.

My understanding is that Colief would help her digest the milk better in the first place?

hmm

having read the intsructions I'd hand express a bit of milk into a tupperware and mix the drops with a teeaspoonful of it

you need so little i wouldn't bother with a pump

Colief works in a different way to infacol and helps with the digestion of the lactose in the milk which can be a factor in colic. It either works really well or doesn't work at all (like in our case ) but if it does work you should know within 3 days. I used to express a a tiny amount into a breast shell, then add the colief. I'd then put it against DS's lip and tip it in gently, and most times he'd swallow it really easily. The breast shell got washed and sterilised after a couple of feeds (I went with the idea that bm is antibacterial :P) The upside of expressing a bit was that it stimulated my reflex so DS didn't get the really fast gush at the beginning which he hated :P Some tips for expressing

I bought Biocare Lactaze Enzyme drops from www.foodreactions.org/products/li.html

and put four drops directly onto DD2's tongue half way through a feed. Before she had been crying non-stop for hours on end. Her nappies had been green, she was windy and she had horrific open sores on her bottom from burning poo due to lactose intolerance. After i started to use these drops (which have the same ingredients as Colief except they are half the price and MUCH more effective) she was a different child and we never looked back.

I called the manufacturer's incidentally and asked them was it ok to use their product in this way and they said there was a very small chance of irritation to the tongue and I should stop if this happened but nothing ever did. They were a life-saver. She grew out of the lactose intolerance by five months. Good luck!
