How to help baby cope with fast let down

I have quite a fast let down which is giving problems at night feeds. DS (8 weeks, DC3) struggles to keep up and consequently gulps on and off the breast and gets quite upset, which then of course makes him more windy and messes up his sleep. (He copes ok during the day - or at least it doesn't make him frantic as it does at night).

Any way in which I can help him? I know that a better latch would probably help but we can't even get that far as it's too much for him to cope with.

I remember having this problem with DC2 also and I think it just resolved in time, but and suggestions on how to improve things in the meantime would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My health visitor advised me to lie baby along my leg - difficult to explain this - pointing north/ south instead of east/ west iyswim and kind of lie as flat as you can on the sofa or chair... worked for us!Also my baby can now cope better with my fast flow, they do as they get older. Am sure you know this

I don't know if this is a version of the advice from Kellymom, but I tried keeping the baby a bit more vertical for the first little bit of each feeding. I allowed the other breast to drip/ squirt while the baby fed from one side, and then changed over after a few minutes of spluttering if I didn't get around to expressing a bit before the baby got too desperate for a feeding.
