Dd is 3wks and four days old.

I feed pretty much on demand but I find it confusing...

If out and about - car, pushchair etc she sleeps really well, but at home, during the day, she hardly sleeps at all so I find myself feeding a lot more often at home.

Should I wake her more frequently when out and about? (She can sleep for 3/4 hour stretches whereas at home she catnaps for 1/2hr at a time and feeds roughly ever 1 1/2 hours)

Nights are not a problem!

A bit incoherent, sorry!

I wouldn't wake her if she's sleeping when you're out and about. Maybe it's just where she prefers sleeping - on the move and with a bit of noise. Pretty normal for a 3 week old!

She probably won't sleep at home as you're just sitting still - have you tried putting her in a sling when you're at home and getting on with a few jobs like washing up/hoovering? This could have the same soothing motion for her and babies seem to love 'white' noise such as the hoover.

I drove myself insane when DS was tiny because I thought that he 'should' be sleeping in his cot, when all he wanted to do was feed every hour 1/2 and then sleep on me. But 3 weeks old is so tiny, just let her sleep where ever. Have you tried a reclining bouncy/vibrating chair for her to sleep in when you're home?

Never wake a sleeping baby.

First rule of motherhood.

She'll be sleeping more when in a car/pram because, as pp says, the motion reminds her of sloshing round in that lovely amniotic fluid.

Lucky you, that nights aren't a problem!

Oh, and congratulations!

Thank you so much!

Yes I do wear a sling at home sometimes and she sleeps quite happily in that... mostly - eyes can suddenly open wide if I sit down to mumsnet peel potatoes. DH is currently rocking her to sleep...

Haven't got a vibrating chair but the bouncy chair doesn't cut much ice with her unless she's having a happy wakey moment and I am chatting to her.
