Advice wanted re: vinegar smelling poo

DD2 aged 15/52 and otherwise well, has this week started having vinegar smelling poos which are absolutely awful! She is breast-fed and otherwise fit and well. This never happened with DD1. Does anyone know what causes this? Huge thanks!

This can be a sign of a tummy upset/ bug. DD has been struggling through a bout of gastric flu and has had very acidic, vinegary nappies for about a week.

GP says that this is simply a sign that all is not well in the tummy department - sometimes the nappies can be the only sign that something is wrong, because they feel OK in themselves and their system is just working things through.

Just keep an eye out for really runny poo, vomiting, fever etc - there's definitely a tummy bug going round.

Now you mention it, DD1 had an upset stomach last week so perhaps DD2 has a version of it too. I'll watch out for other symptoms too.

Thank you!

DS (now aged 2) has always had vinegary poos when he's been teething. Don't know why. Vinegary poo for a couple of days, then a tooth starts coming through.

I think she may be teething, so that does sound like the cause.

Thanks guys!!

Another green poo club member here!

My DS is 13 weeks old and has had several periods of a few days at a time with green poos, some very vinegary. Sometimes it has been linked quite obviously with a lurgy of some kind or other, other times not.

I've extensively googled about foremilk/hindmilk imbalance etc but at the end of the day he's healthy and well, and the Dr's opinion is that he may just be built in a way which means he produces green poos from time to time.

Not very helpful, save to say that none of the episodes seems to have caused any longer term effects. I wouldn't worry too much unless there are other issues - I suspect neither of us will ever know for sure!
