Wind and vomiting

Hi I'm a first time mum and my 8 week old is breast fed with one expressed bottle a day given by his Dad. For the past 4 weeks he has been vomiting/posseting after every feed. We wind him for as long as possible but recently he has become really angry at the trapped wind/vomiting with lots of purple faced crying. Is there anything we can do to make it better for him? Breast feeding has been a battle from the very start and his fussing and pounding fists is getting me down I can't help thinking it would be better on formula? Please help.

has he got reflux?

some possetting is normal and usual but after each feed is something to check out

What's reflux? Should I take him to the GP?

reflux is baby heartburn where acid from the stomach comes back up

all babies are born with a degree of it but some babies suffer more with it than others

does he back arch? Does he feed a lot? Does he sleep ok or not ...

he may not have it but it is worth ruling out

He feeds every 2 1/2 - 3 hours for between 5 - 8 mins and has done since birth. I've had problems with over supply of milk and was over feeding him which resulted in projectile vomit in the early weeks but this didn't seem to bother him at all. It's only recently he has developed the rage about it!

He sleeps ok after some feeds and after others can be groaning and grunting a lot. I presume this is wind and pick him up at these times to continue winding.

hmm - over supply or a fast let down can make babies uncomfortable as well

i would mention it to your HV or GP and see if they have any thoughts

infacol can be very good at getting wind up

Thanks, going to get his immunisation shots at the GP in a couple of days I'll ask then.

I have exactly the same problem as you. Infact your life could be mine ...

I am currently giving my little man lots of infacol and that seems to help. Like you sometimes he sleeps others he wriggles and moans in his sleep.

if you come up with an answer let me know, my little man is 7 weeks now.

I too have exactly the same situation. My little one is now 3 months old and getting la little better at bringing up wind but not a lot! It gets progressively worse throughtout the day so that by the time nighttime comes she can be very wriggly in bed.

We were prescribed infant gaviscon but this seemed to make it worse and getting her to take it was quite stressful. I now think that my fast loet down and over supply are the more likely cause for her sickness and intake of air.

It can be hard but I'm just trying to adjust to the fact that I have a windy/sicky baby! and do whatever I can to make her more comfortable. I did see a cranial osteopath which helped a little and we also now go to baby massage. Little one really ejnoys it.

P.s I also wnet through a phase of feeling like a faliure at breastfeeding, I felt completely responsibile for making her uncofmratable and instead of feeds being a realxing time for bonding I was always anxious that i would be making her sick/uncomforatble (still do seomtimes). I thought about giving up, but several people I spoke to stated that bottle-fed babies tend to suffer worse with wind. My HV also suggested a dummy would help, somethng to do s=with the sucking motion working things thourgh her system. We tried...little one has refused a dummy! (tried 3 different varietes...not interested unless it's thereal thing!)
