20months - excruciating pain feeding from left breast

Help - I am in agony, all of a sudden. My dd, now 20 months, has always fed extremely well - no problems at all with b/fing. My left side has quite suddenly become extremely painful to feed from -it's surprised both of us, with her reacting to my wincing and coming off saying "oh dear!". I can't see any "hot spots" or locate pain in a specific area & I don't feel 'unwell' - don't think I have a blocked duct (having experienced that previously with ds). My nipple isn't cracked or anything. It is just excruciating - before, during and after feeding (and particularly worse with letdown). I have been carrying on, through the pain, with our usual feeding pattern, but I just don't know what else to do.

Any ideas or advice please - we are both distraught

Does it feel hot and burning deep down in the breast and underneath the breast against your ribs? Could it be thrush in the main gland. I had it and it's agony. Also IF you have thrush in your breast, your DD will have thrush in her mouth. Have a look in her mouth and see if she has any white patches rather than pink.

With me, the GP gave me some gel to rub over the nipple which will fix mild cases but it had got deep into the gland and he had to give me some tablets which fixed it in about three days.

Hi - thanks for your reply. I've checked dd's mouth - all looks pink and normal to me. Have just noticed a small, hard lump near to the nipple, though - pretty sure this has only appeared in the last 24 hrs, although I've been suffering with this now for quite a few days. #The sharpest, most agonising pain when feeding. Guess it's a blocked duct and I must just feed, feed, feed as much as I can? Has anyone else got any advice? Thanks.
