Travelling using formular

I'm going to Australia with my 5 month old in a few weeks. Currently I give him one bottle at the end of the day and would like to continue this routine. Problem is they don't sell Cow and Gate in Oz and I hear it's not a good idea to change formular. Shall I risk it or take the formular with me?? Any advice would be appreciated

I would take the formula with you. If it's only one bottle per day then you shouldn't need loads although I don't know how long you're going for. When my ds was having 8 or 9 bottles a day we went to France and I took his Aptamil with us (loads obv. but worth it for peace of mind). On flipside, often you change formulas from six months to a 'follow on milk' (with more iron etc., so a change, if necessary, might not be so harmful. Just wouldn't want you to find that it doesn't suit your baby while you're away from home.

When we took our 5 month old DD to New Zealand last Christmas we took a box of Aptamil powder with us. I'm sure she would've been fine on KariKare or whatever, but it was one less thing for US to worry about - and that's the name of the game. I checked with NZ customs before I went, who sent me a reference to their website where it stated that it was ok to bring infant formula in. I printed it out in case I came past an overzealous official. And just think - the weight in your suitcase taken by formula going out can be replaced by goodies on the way home!

I don't think it is dangerous to change formula - I think this is a myth promoted by the formula companies to encourage brand loyalty. However some babies only settle well on one brand and to have this problem when you were abroad sounds like a pain.

According to this site there are a couple of formula brands in Aus produced by the same company, if that helps.
