Silent reflux in breast fed baby? Gaviscon?

4 week old dd has just had her 2nd night of the week of not sleeping and screaming when lying down.

Tho only way I got her to sleep was on my chest while sat up.

She has been fussing a bit when beibg fed as well.

My thoughts are that its reflux but she isnt being sick. She does have frothy saliva though.

Can we give infant Gaviscon or do I need to see a GP 1st?

hi mama,
congrats on your dd! i have got the same hell going on with my 15wk ds2. giving him gaviscon and it helps a bit but maybe you could give colief a try first as she is so young? colief is for lactose intolerance so slightly different thing but worth a try. both available on prescription.
my ds2 slept on my chest for about 10wks but is now not comfy that way as he is so big!
i'd get gaviscon from your doctor and if no better in a couple of weeks go back as i think there is something stronger.
my ds has had a relapse this week as i eased off the gaviscon to see if he was getting better himself-he isn't and we've now had 2 very restless nights. exactly the same symptoms as your dd.
by the way, gaviscon makes breastfed poo the consistency of marzipan and they do it less often. it will probably freak you out - it did me, but don't worry, it's normal!
i will be checking back here for any better advice too. good luck!

also, get the doctor to check for oral thrush as sometimes this can make them fuss when feeding. it's very common and easily treated, my ds1 had it.

Thank you

I didnt know about about Colief so will get some today to try it.

Its just so awful because she is obviously in pain.

Dp just phoned NHS direct to see what they said as its Sunday. They said to wind her before her feed and sit her in her bouncy chair just after a feed for a while.

I think I will go to our GP tomorrow just to get her checked out.
