support thread for working breastfeeding mums

I thought I start a thread for those of us who are working and still breastfeeding.

My daughter refused all milk at nursery and prefers to breastfeed 4 times a night. She is 10 months old. I don't bother with expressing at work because I take an hour to express 1 oz.

Hello, hope everyone's doing well. Just had a week off which was nice but back to expressing again now! Lots of travel this month though so don't know if we'll last out...

Hi everyone,

I have a DS who is almost 7 months. It's my second day back at work today - went to express at 11am, nothing came out and my pump seems to have lost its power. The joys, the joys!

Another 4 and a half hours to go, hope my boobs don't explode!

Looks like I've killed the thread. How's everyone getting on?

Was just away to look this thread up and try to revive it

I am on week 5 and getting on ok. It is quite a trek to the room that has been provided for me, I suppose I'll be getting fit...

Still not sure why expressing at work feels like a guilty secret - I have only told people when I have to really.

I am mostly getting enough milk for DH to give to DS when I am away, some days it seems easier than others though.

I am really glad to be doing this , as it is so much easier for DH and better for DS. I am looking forward to two weeks off away from the pump however!

One quite cool thing is that I am the first person at my work to do this, so seem to be blazing a trail, with facilities being organised for future bf ladies, and lots of leaflets being handed out about bf and expressing when they get their expectant mother assessment at the occupational health department

I expressed when I went back to work after having dd she was at hte time 5 months. I carried on until she was 11 months before she dropped her afternoon feed. I would feed her beforeand after work then started her on a cup of cows milk at 12 months if she wanted a bit more.

Sounds daft but on stressful/busy days when 'I've got to express NOW before next patient gets here' looking at photos of dd helped!!

DS only 12 weeks so not going back to work for a while yet

jaggythistle · 15/04/2010 09:49

I have enough photos on my phone, so perhaps I will get gazing next time I am expressing, had forgotten about that!

carrielou2007 · 15/04/2010 10:10

Again sounds really silly but when we would be running behind and my 'just sitting witha cup of tea not really doing anything important we can disturb her ' time if I would start to get a bit stressed and feel tearful then looking at the pics really helped (can almost feel my letdown now thinking about itand ds has just fed!!)

Hi all, have had an unexpected 4 nights without ds this week, 3 of them consecutive! Was supposed to come back in between so just one night inbetween but volcano stopped play as they say. Have been expressing in airport toilets, trains, theatres, hotels etc and was very worried about keeping going but got home last night and ds fed as normal (cosleeping) so seems to be ok. Our freezer stock is now almost gone though! Am so relieved is not the end of bf as was hoping to do a year (ds is 9 months).

Did use phone photos in times of stress and really helped, was worried re supply depletion. Supportive colleague who bred for two years also helped, other colleagues thought I was nuts!
