Dreamfeeding: how to do it?!

ds2 is 12 weeks and his longest stretch of sleep at night is from 8ish to 1ish. I'd like to try and get this longer stretch to co-incide with me being asleep so it makes sense to dreamfeed him about half ten. But I tried last night and he just wouldn't go for it. I didn't want to rouse him fully in case he got upset and am not sure whether 'dream' feed means they really are asleep or actually you wake them up. Is there a knack to it? I did try (rather half-heartedly admittedly) with ds1 and dd and couldn't get it to work with them either.

Thanks

are you bf or bottle? i dream feed dd, she is generally asleep, stirs enough as she is lifted from her cot to latch on and then feeds but is more asleep than not iyswim. however, more often, i give her a bottle of ebm as i find she takes more nad so goes a bit longer.
some nights she wakes at about the time i go to bed so she is awake.
not sure if that helps acutally! good luck!

You might have to wake him up a bit more the first few times, that's what I found with DD. After that she got the hang of it. If he's generally a good sleeper at night then he should go back to sleep straight away afterwards. I did it with breastfeeding - I would think if he doesn't normally have a bottle that would be harder, but if he does then it might work for you.
