How long to pump for?

I just have no idea what i should expect to get by pumping. DD is 1 week today and after a tricky start, we're perservering with bfing and also pumping to get supply up - also means when she feeds but is still hungry, but shattered from feeding for an hour, then i can top her up with breast milk rather than formula. My milk has been slow to come in, but she cvertainly seems to be feeding easier today.

When i pump, i'm pumping each side for about 10 minutes before it seems to slow up and i end up with about 50ml in total. I've been pumping between each feed.

The lady is still very hungry though, so to be honest, it is a constant feed and pump cycle we're on!

Does 50ml seem right? Or has my milk not actually come in yet, it is still quite yellow.

many thanks ladies, xx

50 mls sounds like loads to me. with my 1st (low supply issues), I was lucky if I managed 10mls. With my 2nd I didn't bother and made sure I rested in between feeds instead. I think this helped my supply - DD has been piling on the pounds!

50mls sounds good, particularly as DD only 1 week old, ur really early days and most rec no pumping until at least 4 weeks.

i've just started pumping this last week and my DD is 5 weeks and i'm managing about 30mls in 5-10 mins. one thing i did find that makes a massive difference is the time of day that i pump (morning seems best for me) and that i lean into the pump to give gravity a helping hand!

good luck! x
