And she has teeth at the bottom and it really hurts! I've tried saying NO! when she does it but she just pretends not to understand. Advice?

pull her in, towards you. Sounds counterintuitive but it makes them unlatch quickly. And then I cover up for a minute or two, then offer again.

My sympathies though - my ds2 is 6 months and does the same, especially when he's teething or has a cold.

Thanks Nelly. First one of mine to get teeth so early and I'm not used to being bitten!

hi duchess,my ds got teeth at 5 months and bit me a couple of times. I shouted no and put him on the floor, he then laughed. Happened again one more time and I and he responded the same way. He hasn't done it again since, thank Christ, and hoping he won't (is now 7 months)

i was going to start a thread on this

DD is 18 weeks and drags my nipple to the side so i get her sharp little teeth scraping me

thanks for this tip nelly ... was trying to unlatch her with my finger but it is too slow

2andcounting · 19/02/2010 21:01

dd2 did this, was so excruciating actually thought i was going to have to very reluctantly stop feeding- but thankfully, once she seemed to get used to having her teeth she stopped of her own accord- she wasn;t takiing a blind bit of notice of me pulling her off or shouting no! bujt thankfully feeding still going strong and no more biting!

My puncture has just healed and I've been using Nelly's tip when the vampire threatens again. I've noticed a glint in her eye now and a change in sucking pattern just before she does it. She's 6 months now, but got 2 teeth at just over 4 months which is when the biting was worst. Ow! You have my sympathy.

Gosh, are all these little biters early teethers? (18 weeks and teeth!) I wonder if there's a correlation? I suppose the correlation could be that later teethers are also less likely to still be breastfeeding. I don't remember my later teethers biting like this. It's as though as someone said, she's not used to the feel of her teeth yet. It has only been a week.

Taking DS off immediately and ending the feed soon stopped him biting - he only did it 2 or 3 times in all. Too risky!

duchesse: had this a couple of weeks ago but just noticed a first tooth has appeared and it has (fingers crossed) stopped. Hope so anyway cos it really hurt!
