lanisoh nipples whilst pregnant in relation to raynauds/nipple vasospasm....

I am due dc3 in July. With dd1 and dd2 b'feeding ended very early (with dd1 I b'fed/express fed for 3 months, with dd2 about 3 weeks). With dd1 it was a catalogue of problems - tongue tie (spotted too late), thrush, blistered/bleeding nipples etc. With dd2 she had none of these problems, but feeding her was agony, as was expressing. I stopped pretty early because I couldn't face going through the misery I had with dd1, whilst I also had to look after both dds (dd1 was 14 months old).

I have mentioned the problems I had on here, and someone pointed out that it sounded as though i could have nipple vasospasm or raynauds.

My mw said that the blanching and extreme sensitivity, does sound like raynauds, as it also happens in my fingers and toes. The pain in my nipples has already started, especially when they are cold.

She is going to get in touch with some bfc, who might be able to give me some advice, and also told me to start using Lanisoh on my nipples now, to help the circulation.

I just wondered whether this sounded like sound advice (I am afraid I'm a little mistrustful of MW's b'feeding advice, after some bad encounters in the past!), and if anyone has any further advice/experience, that would be great - thankyou.

There is another thread on here which talks medication Adalat (nifedipine) and heat pads to keep the breasts warm also while pregnant. Lots of suggestions on warming pads.

And this report talks about minimising the side effects of the drug and possible use of calcium and magnesium to help.

Homeopathy might also be able to help as you could probably start this now and avoid the problems when the baby arrives - could also help the hand and feet issues in the long term.

As this is made worse by the cold, hopefully in July this won't be so bad!! Good luck!!

Thankyou Dierdre, I asked the MW about nifedipine, but she seemed doubtful that I would be prescribed it - I will have to look at it a bit more closely.

I will read up on homeopathy, not something I had really thought of.

I have raynauds of the nipples, I can't see that applying lansinoh could do any harm, but I always have to apply moisturiser everywhere every day as I have very dry skin, and it doesn't seem to affect mine, I still get vasospasms when it's cold.

I didn't have a problem with bf my ds, although I only lasted a few weeks and it was fairly warm when he was newborn (august) so maybe the fact that she's due in july will help.

I've heard there are circulation boosting drugs out there which can help. Personally I just keep a hot water bottle handy.
