3 week old and Gripe water

I've got a v windy baby who screams for hours on end. We're at our wits end, and trying most things, but haven't tried gripe water yet as it says only use from one month onwards, do you think it's safe to use it before then. Ds is 3 weeks old. Don't think we can cope with another week of this! Any thoughts?

Could you use fennel or camomile tea instead ? I'm sure gripe water contains some fennel as the smell seems so familiar. Also if you are b'feeding you could drink some yourself and see if it helps. Others report that baby massage techniques and cranial osteopathy can help.

i swear by infacol. really helped with my ds. can use from birth. he's 12wks still need it every now and then.

There was a thread on this not long ago, with lots of ideas for windy babies. Try the link below. Hope your baby settles soon.

Have at look at this

Yeah infacol is great! Or there is a baby massage where u stroke gently down their tummy with one hand whilst holding their legs up on a slight angle with the other. That works really well on my DS

have u done baby massage? lots of good moves.. infacol is immediate help i think and natural

Infacol only worked sometimes for us. Gripewater worked the best. But be careful there are different brands (some have alcohol in them!). Woodwards is alcohol free, and we used that one.

We used it (very small dose at first) from 2 or 3 weeks and never had any bad side effects. Certainly resulted in a much more settled baby. Baby was definately worse without it. I was concerned at the time, but the pharmacist said it was fine (he looked at the ingredients) and it really helped (and nothing else did other than warm baths with baby in the bath with an adult).

Also, a local pharmacist made up his own gripewater which was safe from birth (sorry, this is in New Zealand, but someone there might do something similar).

Good luck!

I would try to get a gripe water with sugar rather than the no sugar/full of chemicals type. Nurse Harvey is good, but you have to get from little tiny old fashioned chemists.

Thanks for the quick replies. Will try the gripe water, as the infacol has not worked for us. Will have a look at the link that Littlefish posted. Funnily enough, had a better day and night yesterday, and did not give her anything!
