Does this sound like DS was hungry?

Hi all,
just after a bit of reassurance that I've done the right thing, my 3.5 week ds is already on 6oz bottles and have just upped them to 7oz - which he just gulped down.....
He's been draining 95% of his 6oz bottles for last week but been reluctant to up him to 7 as everyone seems suprised at how much he's eating already - midwife told us to up his feeds from 5 to 6oz when he'd not regained his birth weight 2 weeks ago then he gained a pound in 5 days so then another midwife said he was prob on too much be we prob couldn't reduce it now -confusing!!!. But he is actually having 5 rather than 6 feeds a day - 6am, 10/11am, 3pm, 7pm and 12.30/1am so was only 30oz per day.... Anyway in last 5 days or so but he does seem to have been waking up about an hour before each of his feeds are due and grizzling and being unsettled been thinking it was wind bothering but haven't actually been able to get any burps out of him so guessing not.....
So am I right to up his feeds? Does it sound like he's been hungry?? Worried about over feeding him - hate this trying to second guess him, makes me feel so cluless!

It's a long time since I bottle fed babies, but DS1 started on 4oz and was up to 7oz, 6 times a day by the time he was a month old - I was astounded at how quickly his consumption increased. He's a perfectly normal-sized adult now, and has never been overweight. HTH.

i would increase it if i was you, and see how it goes. if he drinks the whole 7oz then he obviously wants it, if its too much for him wont he just leave a bit? also if he does drink a bit more like 6 and a half and leaves a little rather than completely draining then you'll feel happy that he's had enough not wondering is he still hungry

I know this post is a little old but I would say that if you were breast feeding you wouldn't know how much he was having, you'd just feed him when he was hungry and he'd stop when he was full. I always applied the same logic when I ff DD1, if they don't want it they won't drink it. It's seemed to work so far.

I think it sounds fine, good idea as others have said to get to an amount where he leaves a small amount in the bottom of the bottle rather than draining it completely - then you are never feeling like trying to get him to finish it just for the sake of it, and he takes as much as he needs at the time.
