AAARGH me poor nipple

I have a very sore left nipple at the moment - DS has a cold/blocked nose so his latching is a bit dodgy at the moment. It's got to the point where I dread him feeding on that side.

Is it ok to rest the left side for a few days while it heals, and just use pump on it (which doesn't hurt and does relieve eengorgement)?

Any advice very welcome.

Gah! Total sympathy here. My lefty is sporting a gaping wound after a blister (yuk yuk yuk). I don't think a couple of days of expressing one side will do you any harm.

Sixteen weeks and I still have a lousy latch [sigh].

Can you go to a baby cafe or similar to get help with latch? Pumping will keep the breast producing, but probably less milk than it would if you fed.

change position, try feeding on that side with baby facing the other direction. get a different sort of pain! no, it should help.

agree with nqc too, get some help.

How old is your LO? Your pumping idea will let you have a break if you're sore, but as said you may find a dip in your supply on that side. Some other ideas below...

How old do they need to be before you can use the Calpol saline drops? It might help clear his nose.

If you try and rotate the position that you feed him in, for the side that is sore, then you won't be using the same damaged area of your breast eg. lying, rugby, cradle etc.

Definitley try some Lansinoh cream too. Expensive but a good investment. Some GP's will give it on prescription.

Oh, just another thought too, make sure your baby hasn't got a touch of thrush that could be making everything worse.
