Washable breast pads

Is there a trick to keeping washable breast pads soft? I am using some Avent ones, and it has got to the point where they feel like cardboard! I've only been using them for about 4 weeks. I'm washing them at 40 degrees with non-bio powder and no fabric conditioner.

Any tips, anyone?

wash, wash and then wash again, I think.

How are you drying them? How about putting them into the tumble dryer if you have one, as this can make things softer than drying on a radiator?

AngelDog · 08/02/2010 16:31

Yes, I was radiator drying them originally, although the last couple of days I've put them in the dryer - maybe I need to wash and tumble dry more to soften them up again.

I did wonder whether all the Lansinoh might be making them go funny, but I'm sure they must be designed to get coated in that sort of stuff.

Ah - I do think Lansinoh can be a bugger to get off properly - I used to soak mine every so often in Dreft or wash them in bio powder then wash again in non-bio to get all the laninsoh out properly.

Stops being such a problem further down the line when you're not slapping on handfuls of the stuff after every feed

Ah, maybe I'll do a mass bio wash of them all every so often.

Thanks! Can't wait to get to the stage where I don't need the stuff.

Poledra, I tried both your suggestions and they do seem to be softer - thanks!

wash them at 60 degrees! i've been doing this and they don't shrink or anything. I found that when I washed them at 40 they still smelt milky, bleurgh.

AngelDog · 10/02/2010 16:54

duzida, I did try this actually when I washed them with bio, and they came out well. I'll definitely try it again.
