Ow! Sore nipples with a 15mo

Ow! DS (15mo, 9 teeth) is really hurting my nipples at the moment.

He's not exactly biting but it's probably more like grating. Sometimes he pulls at it when sucking and tries to stretch it far! Other times he'll be sucking and then let go ever so slightly but still be sucking and it hurts.

Last night my nipples hurt so much I couldn't feed him in the night and he got so upset.

I don't want to give up yet but might have to for the sake of my boobs. Any advice?

My DS went through a phase of playing with me like this. I told him 'No' in a stern voice and unlatched him and carried on doing this til he got the message. Often it was because he was not really hungry so we would stop the feed there and then. They do grow out of it - novelty wears off. Wait til they start the nipple twiddling - DS hasn't grown out of that one and its really really annoying!

He already goes for the other one at night! Strategic arm positioning stops him. Then there's the whole pushing really hard against my armpit...

I am laughing here.
DS 13 month has just started the twiddling. Usually when he is tired and ready to feed, keeps putting his had down my top.

with preggers here on this one.. A stern NO has worked so far with similar issues with my nearly 1y.o DD...although she got upset and then I got upset and then my DP got upset seeing both of upset - silly really.

Poke a finger into a spot on the back of their neck - it makes their jaw relax (hard to explain, but you will find it) I do this and then take DS off and then let him start again. Saying "No" doesn't seem to have an effect so I have stopped it - just the action does help. He is 16mo.

Teething gel just before a feed helps enormously - so I think it must be teething related. However he has just decided he doesn't like the taste of it so I have two options - force it anyway and let him scream and try to get it out of his mouth for about 2-3 minutes or put up with chewed nipples
