Nursing tops

Please could someone explain to me how tops like this one www.mamaway.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_32&products_id=153&zenid=a46c5f7067a1aa56 391615d6df010ba5 work as I can't seem to work it out from the pictures I have looked at.

Also, are they a good buy or just another gimmick to make 1st timers like me part with their money

Hey Fibi

It looks as though it is a double layered one. You lift the top layer right up over the boob and the one underneath will cover tummy etc. but have holes where your breasts are allowing you to bfeed discreetly.
Tops like that are ok, but I find it annoying to have to lift top layer all the way up. You end up with lots scrunched under your chin.

Heaps of people feed with non bfeeding tops, but I have some - IMO it does make life easier. I have discovered a really nice brand called mothers en vogue. Scrummy mummy and yummymummy stock them online. Ordered a few and they are really nice.

I've got one of these and one of these

The t-shirt is especially fab as the front is double layered but the top layer only comes down to a couple of inches below my boobs so you only have a small amount of fabric to lift while the lower layer covers my Mummy Tummy (and big tummy holding pants ). I like it because the top of the lower section stops just under my boobs too (don't worry, there is an overlap - not had an exposure yet) so I can easily get to the clips on my feeding bra and don't need to go poking my boobs through stupid holes like I do with my Mothercare nursing vests!

I am a first timer too and posted a thread about feeding tops a few weeks back. I got some great advice, don't bother with feeding tops and go with shirts or loose tops with a stretchy vest underneath, so then you can open shirt or pull up top pull down vest over boob and then you are ready to go without exposing midriff and other boob. I have stocked upon vests and it works great!!!

sweetnitanitro · 04/02/2010 12:52

I second the stretchy vest under a t-shirt or cardie idea. I tried a few nursing tops and found them all crap. Also it's much cheaper to buy a few vests because then you can just wear all your pre-pregnancy clothes

I love the mamaway tops. I know everyone says don't bother and just use a vest but I think the mamaway tops are worth their weight in gold. The ones I have either have a hiden bit at the top which you pull back or a double layer at the front (held together by poppers). You unpop it and then lift up the first layer, the second layer has slits in the side which you feed through.

the [http://www.mamatoto.co.uk/CAT_ListCategories.aspx?cid=37&pid=36&Category=Breast-Feeding feeding tops] on here are brilliant. just unclip at the top, no need for anything else i found.

amidaiwish · 04/02/2010 14:02

argh. here

GhoulsAreLoud · 04/02/2010 14:05

I always did the double layer thing too. I'm going to buy some breastvests this time too because I found nursing vests a pain having to unclip the vest and then the bra. I would just use normal vests but I've never found any that stretch enough to be able to pull underneath my bra.

hello

I have bought about 10 cheap vests from M&S in standard colours (white, black, gray, navy) and cut slits in them to make nipple holes. I wear them under normal tops so that I can pull the necks down and not expose my boob. I am uncomfortable with pulling anything up as I am really overweight at the moment so I find tops I can just pull the neck down are better and you can't see anything because the vest covers almost the whole breast leaving just the nipple out. hope this makes sense!

I have a great coverall bib from www.babybubu.co.uk

Apart from that I go with the top up and vest down advice or shirts and vests.
