Probably a really stupid question about breastfeeding and thrush

Slightly at the tmi but my whole family seems to be riddled with disease and we need help.

DD (16 months) has been suffering with a bad nappy rash type thing which I think might actually be thrush (very often lots of little red spots, though also often looks fungal too) which we've been treating with Canesten HC, Daktacourt, fresh air and a variety of other creams and potions. It clears up quite fast usually but never stays away for long and she's clearly quite itchy.

Meanwhile I seem to have had thrush on and off for the past few months as well, so I'm starting to wonder whether we're just passing it backwards and forwards between us. Thing is that it's vaginal, not oral, and I'm not sure that it's actually possible to pass it on via breastfeeding (can't think how else we'd pass it). There have been no signs of oral thrush at all, other than itchy (not sore) nipples for a couple of days (?not sure that is a thrush symptom anyway).

Thanks for reading,
Itchy & Scratchy

It could well be thrush in your nipples, as there are not always any symptoms, and if you keep getting it elsewhere things might be alittle out of balance. I am also having problems with ?thrush (it's very frustrating, not sure if I definitely have it), HV said itching can be a symptom. I would probably go to the doctor or speak to HV for more advice. Are you taking acidophilus or anything?

That's interesting that I could have thrush in my nipples without symptoms.

I think I will make an appointment with the GP, just wanted to mention it here first in case s/he looked at me like I was insane if I thought we were passing it to each other! I have mentioned DD's rash (not mine ) to my dad (retired GP) a few times and his advice is just to keep going with the Daktacourt. I'm not taking anything, just use the Canesten when it gets really bad.
