20 mth olds, stil b'feeding but won't drink cow's milk - help!

DT's are 20 months old and b'feeding morning, after lunch, bedtime and during the night if they wake. I'd like cut the middle of the night feed(s) - although they don't happen every night - and the afternoon feed.

My biggest problem is cow's milk. They hate it! I've left it too late to introduce it - through being busy and simply not thinking about it rather than anything else. DT1 looks absolutely horrified when she sees it coming. Does anyone have any tips please s to how I can soften the blow and help them get to like it? They eat plenty of yogurt and some cheese but I would still like them to drink milk at this age.

Thanks.

Hi Millie

I recently stopped bfing my 17 month old altogether. He barely drinks any cow's milk but did increase his intake slighlty as I dropped his feeds. He eats lots of yoghurt and cheese and is well hydrated so I'm just carrying on offering him cow's milk in the morning and evening and trying not to worry about it.

I'm not sure if that helps much!

Good luck!

My daughter is nearly 3 now, but at your DT's age she wouldn't really drink cow's milk either. One way to introduce it is to mix it with some expressed milk, mostly expressed to start with and gradually increase the amount of cow's milk.
On the other hand, keep offering and as long as they eat yoghurt and cheese, there shouldn't be a problem.
My DD drinks cow's milk now, although she prefers semi skimmed to full fat.

I don't have direct experience of your problem but - possibly obvious suggestion - have you tried giving it to them warm rather than straight out of the fridge (ie more like breast milk)?

Thanks all ... had a horrible feeling someone would suggest mixing express with cow's milk . Figured that's what I might resort to!! Wigeon - yes, have tried it warmed slightly and also cold. DT1's face is a picture - she waves it away . Feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one with this problem. Might dig my pump out and see what I can produce! Thanks again
