Feeding outfit for Christening

Hi All,

A challenge for you!

Am due to go to a christening in a couple of weeks and have no idea what to wear! I am likely to have to feed at some point during the service, and haven't really mastered truly discrete feeding. I am going to have to buy something as my post-pregnancy wardrobe is v small, as I still have an extra stone or so to lose (dd is 11 weeks). It is likely to be cold in a draughty church, so want to be warm but also look smart (but not wedding dressy - it's not a big do). My self confidence is not great atm, so could do without anything too figure hugging! Don't want to spend much unless v versatile and could be used everyday too iyswim.

Hope you can help

Hmmm.

Sit at the back (no nosy people looking over your shoulder).

Big pashmina and top you can yank up easily.

i would go for skirt, top and a nice cardigan

Waterfall cardigans are my latest obsession. Like a mobile pashmina. Quite a few in the shops at the moment and they look very elegant.

this site has a big range of nursing tops, some of which could definitely be dressed up and I think this dress is nice too. Not warm but you could add a pashmina to keep you snug and it will add an extra layer to help you feel more discreet.

I agree with the waterfall cardigan - works brilliantly!

blouse/top that buttons up or wrap top. with vest underneath.

I wore a wrap dress to own ds Christening but was not the most modest or discrete garment to feed in even though i had fairly easy access [blush} but luckily i found a quiet corner in hall & parked buggy at appropriate angle so i could flash shield myself.

You could always pack a bottle of ebm just in case or give baby a top-up just before going into church (DS always seemed to need feeding just as i was about to get out of the car, so I am a pro at bf in the car now - never did it once with ds1!)

when dd2 was christened i wore a black top and pencil skirt- same material so it looked like a dress under a gorgeous wee 1950s style jacket, i always do lots of accessories- but my SECRET WEAPON for bf when wanting to be a bit more discreet is wearing a boob tube ( black also) under ur top, and pull it down below ur bra, then when ur feeding ur tummy etc still covered. (cheaper version of a proper nursing top i suppose). [simile]

Having just gone through this myself and worn a dress that I could not get off my poor DS screamed through his entire christening until a nice lady came over and said take him into the vestry dear and feed him.
So my point is there is always a little room you can take them into, when you get to the church ask the man/woman handing out the hymn books (there is always one) where you can go if you need to feed/change the wee one then sit near it at the end of a pew so you can get out.
Hope you have a nice day

Check out mummylooksfab dot co dot uk (I'm not computer literate enough to post a link ) pretty good range of stylish nursing clothes, reasonably priced & very speedy delivery.
They have a really pretty oriental feeding top (£40). I bought the kimono dress in teal to wear at Christmas with a black shrug & black opaque tights. Empire line really good for post baby tummy & feeding access very discrete. I'm going to buy the mauve version for my own DTs christening (whenever I get round to getting it organised!)

Dress got lots of compliments by the way! Wore it again to my niece's 18th birthday party on Saturday. And it did make me feel stylish! Especially as I was wearing my heels (restricted to flats for last few weeks of my pregnancy because of big fat oedematous feet )!
