I've just made a doctor's appointment, but wanted some advice before I go. I've been treating nipple thrush with Daktarin for 3 weeks and the baby too (although she seems not to be symptomatic). I'd thought it was improving but has been getting worse again over the last few days to the point where I cried through the last feed. That made me pick up the phone! Anyway our BF clinic isn't on this week and the Babycafe isn't till after the appointment, so no-one in real life to ask about what treatment I should be offered next. Have had positioning looked at and seems to be okay. Thanks

Thanks. BF helpline I've just phoned was extremely unhelpful!

I took Fluconazole tablets and had baby on Nystatin. I had bad thrush in ducts etc. It took a few courses to clear it but relief from pain was within a few hours.

Dr wouldn't give me fluconazole. Said it was incompatible with breastfeeding and would be 'disastrous'. Would only give me repeat of what we had before - Daktarin cream and gel. Said it would 'just go eventually'. He clearly had no idea of how painful it is! I managed to get to see a BF counsellor at baby cafe who was much more helpful but I can't get another appointment to see Dr today. I think it'll be painkillers all weekend!
Thanks for link to Breastfeeding network publication. It was their helpline I rang this morning and was given completely different advice to what it says in the leaflet. Interesting!
