Electric breastpump recommendations

I am having a hard time expressing milk for DD2, having found it very easy with DD1. This time I can spend an absolute age pumping away with my little Avent manual pump and nothing happens other than wristache. And this is when my breasts feel quite full!

So, can anyone recommend an electric pump? I had one of those mini-Medela things years ago, it never seemed to have enough suck and somehow I broke it. Would I be better off with something that does both breasts at once? I don't mind forking out a bit for this since I will be pumping daily when I go back to work in the hope of keeping this baby on BM until she is 1.

Thanks

Sorry, can't help: I found a manual Avent isis much better than the medela.

Ameda Lactaline is brilliant. Had a mini medela last time which was awful, noisy and took forever. Ameda was a revelation! here

I use the Medela Swing and find it absolutely excellent. It is quick and quiet and very comfortable.

I haven't tried it (yet!) but the Ameda Lactaline scores well on MN reviews www.mumsnet.com/Reviews/BreastPumps&call=IndexPage&title=.

It is on sale for £80 including delivery at the NCT shop www.nctshop.co.uk/Ameda-Lactaline-Personal-Dual-Electric-Breastpump/productinfo/2006/.

Ameda Lactaline* all the way. My horrid yellow mini Medela broke too (and DH HATED the noise) and with 2 older DC's I wanted to pump both boobs at the same time.

It is brilliant. I found out about it on MN (of course).

Try Ebay if you don't mind a 2nd one. I did and inc postage spend about £45 in total.

I rent a medela symphony and found it was the best for me, I tried a lot of different ones. You can rent them through the NCT or through www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk

I love my medala swing.

MrsHappy · 26/01/2010 16:01

Thanks all. Looks like the Ameda one might be the best bet. I really don't trust Medela ever since the pump I had from them before just used to grind away to very little effect, and then died of exhaustion a week or two in.

jkklpu (pronounced "Smythe" I presume?)- I know what you mean. I think the Avent Isis is better than the mini-Medela that I had. Well, I've used it about a zillion times and it isn't broken, so that's a huge advantage!

Second Thalia that renting a Medela Symphony is the best. I found an immediate increase in my supply when I moved to this from my single breast pump as well and have been able to exclusively feed EBM since and stash some in the freezer.

If you decided to buy 2nd hand from Ebay you can buy replacement "milk collection points" for around 25 pounds - also on the website I linked to earlier in thread.

OhFuck · 26/01/2010 20:15

I had a Medela Swing and got on great with it. I haven't used the Mini Medela but it looks a bit flimsy to me. The Swing was really comfy and quiet and efficient.

Avent manual pump was such a waste of money for me - absolutely rubbish and didn't pump a drop. I will never even attempt using manual pumps, in my eyes they are hopeless.

I used Ameda pump in the hospital and got Ameda Lactaline when I got home from
here

redtabby · 27/01/2010 10:31

Ameda Lactaline for me too. I work full time and express every day, in the office and often in the car. I bought a set that came with a discreet little black backpack and a cooler bag. It is an essential for me.

LadyGaga · 27/01/2010 10:34

Another vote for the Medela Swing- it does the work beautifully!

littlemefi · 28/01/2010 22:41

Me too for the Medela Swing!!

whensmydayoff · 28/01/2010 23:12

for 1st baby I used Medela swing. Id spend a life time trying to get enough for a bottle. When I had weened him I threw it in the bin !

DD came along 6 weeks ago and I bought the Avent double electric pump. It is like the powerful ones you get in hospitals. OK it was £200 (on sale) in Mothercare but after the months of misary expressing with DS Id have sold my gran to pay for a better one!

Now Im not showing off but 15 minutes and ive got 115mls! Worth every penny
