Help me compile a list of local and national support for breastfeeding so I have a list for my hospital bag!

Probably going to struggle to BF as had breast reduction 9 years ago and am 38 weeks pregnant with boobs determinedly pretty much the same size as at the start of my pregnancy- bah! On the plus side though I am able to get small amounts of colostrum if I squeeze so the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

Anyhow I have read lots of books and posted a lot on mumsnet (and owe a massive thanks to Suwoo and You for all their help and support and for posting me ace books and supplemental nursing systems) so I feel as prepared as I can be. Also went to a 3 hour breastfeeding class run by my hospital which was very helpful.

So now I need the next stage in my armoury a list of local and national support.
So I'm guessing I need to look up numbers for NCT breastfeeding helpline, La Leche League, there is a breastfeeding counsellor at my hospital too, what else?

I live in Haringey- anyone know of best local support? I think there are groups but struggling to find out when and where online.

Help!
Ta muchly.

there's a great mp3 download called Easier Breastfeeding on a pregnancy/birth site, positive-birth, or on easybirthdownloads. There's also a free download on the positive-birth site for anyone who's pregnant.

Hi there Thandeka, well done to you for seeking out this stuff before you give birth! Most of us come woefully unprepared so you are already one step ahead of the game.

Have you spoken to your surgeon, as I believe different reduction techniques have different implications for breastfeeding?? Either way, breast size at this stage is, I believe, unimportant so don't take that as a sign of anything (e.g. mine were completely unchanged at 38 weeks).

It looks like there is lots going on in Haringey, the NCT has a good Haringey website with contact details for local BF counsellors and 4 drop-in groups here:

www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/in-your-area/haringey/breastfeedingsupport

If you can, try to make contact with a counsellor or a group this week as that will make it much easier for you to access BF support in the early days, when you are most likely to need it.

The best of luck!!
