Stopped breastfeeding and now feeling blue?

I had to stop breastfeeding my DS a few weeks ago because I had to have an op and meds after. I was really sore and swollen to begin with but am now more or less back to normal (whatever that is!). I'm now feeling really tired and low. Has anyone else experienced this? Wonder whether it's all those crazy hormones...

I think it's quite common to feel a bit down after stopping bfing. Especially if it wasn't actually your decision to stop. Go easy on yourself, treat yourself to some pretty new bras, have a night away? How long did you bf for?

I fed him for just over 5 months, and I wasn't happy about having to stop. There's a lot of pressure on to feed for at least 6 months, so some of what I feel is guilt. But I don't remember feeling so down when I stopped with my first DS.

Will take your advice re a new bra - and now in a less Jordan-esque size!!

I felt terribly down each time I stopped bf (I fed till around 6 months with all 3 of mine). I wanted to stop and was happy with my decision each time but still found i felt down and depressed. It took me by surprise first time but with DCs 2 and 3 I expected it and DH did too so made a point of trying to cheer me up etc. I found I felt great again a week or so after my milk had completely dried up. I'm sure it is hormonal and no doubt in another week or so you will feel a lot better. I hope so.....

I think you may have just explained why I am feeling so rubbish at the moment! DS (15months) stopped feeding last week and I have been feeling a bit flat since then. I remember feeling v low after stopping with DD as had to due to illness and hospital admission. I had put it down to the illness but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a hormonal element too.

Good to hear that I'm not alone in feeling like this! Those hormones have a lot to answer for...

Just to add to the general joys of life I now feel I have to start a diet as the old 'eating for two' argument just doesn't wash when you've stopped BF!
