Will switching to formula help my DD put on wieght?

My 6 month old DD had a vomiting virus and we were in hospital from last Sunday to Tuesday. During this time she ate very little and was on a drip. She is fine now but we had to stop weaning for a few days (she was up to 4 tea spoons twice a day) and are now back to square 1 regarding solid food.

Anyway she has lost quite a lot of weight and now weighs the same as she did 22 days ago. Her nappies are leaking loads and she looks tiny

But thank god she's better- anyway I really want her to regain the weight. She is BFeed but I'm wondering if I switch to formula will this help her weight recover?

it is doubtful that that will help, also breastmilk is more readily digested and it is what she is used to, concentrate on feeding her as much as she wants feeding , don't worry too much about solids, the milk is enough for her at this age, it iwll take a while for her to put the weight back on as she has been so poorly, but she'll get there, also , if she's been poorly, switching from, breast to bottle might be a harder transition and also, when she is at the breast she is closer to you and she'll enjoy the comfort of that

Your poor DD, that sounds really hard.

I agree that BF would be the best thing for her. If you think about it her body is working exactly the way it was designed to to recover from the illness and trying to put the weight back on as quickly as possible is not the natural way to do things. Of course you want her to be back to her normal self, I understand that, but keep up the breastfeeding and I am sure she will be fine, take it easy. Babies tend to have a lot of extra fat anyway which helps them through at times like these.

Poor little thing. But I would absolutely stick with the breastmilk; the last thing you want to do now is introduce something new that might potentially irritate her gut.
