2yr old still having a bed time bottle. Ok?

Hi,
A bit of advice needed please.
Is it ok that my 2yr old is still having a bottle at bed time? Or is it time I ditched it for good
He eats well and drinks from a cup happily through out the day.
We both love sitting quietly at the end of a hectic day having a cuddle whilst he has his bottle.
TIA

My 2.10 year old does only at bed, dont worry about it. I know that i will get flamed for this but, some mums feed older children at these times to give comfort and this is what it kind of is imo, its providing comfort. Dont know how i will wean her hopfully in the next few months

dd1 had a bottle of milk before bed til she was about 4. she didn't take it to bed, so no sucking on it in the night. just before bed. hasn't done any harm (now nearly 6). i wouldn't worry about it.

My dd is 4, and she still has a bedtime bottle. I have been concerned about it, but, sod it, she's perfectly healthy, intelligent and happy. If she is still asking for it at 18, I may be worried...

Before he goes to bed is fine, but not taking them to bed like a stupidly let DS1 who's front teeth became weak and eventually snapped off as a result during some rough play.

Will never forgive myself.

So does my nearly 3 year old. He has it before we brush teeth and it's definitely a comfort thing.

My DS has milk every morning (he always wanted it in the morning rather than bedtime but same difference)

I decided to stop him having it in a bottle at approx 2 and a half, instead he now has it in a Tommee Tippee Easiflow cup as I thought the soft teat on these cups was closest to a bottle, and he loves Winnie the Pooh characters who are on the front of the cups.

He took to the change straight away and still found it comforting, and still has it. He is 3 soon and I have no intention of stopping yet.

coolma - so glad you posted that as my dd (just turned 4 ) still loves her bedtime bottle , she only drinks a sip of it but loves to hold it to go to sleep ,

coolma · 17/01/2010 19:58

I am very ashamed to admit that she also asks for it during the day sometimes - although if anyone is round she won;t. In her words 'I don't want people thinking I'm a baby'!

Well I BF DD until she was 2.3 - in the end only before bed. So much the same thing really. She is only just stopping cups of milk at bed time and she is 3.4yo. That is her choice - we still offer it but more often than not she chooses a cup of water incase she wakes thirsty.

We switched from BF to a cup in the day so a cup at night seemed the obvious choice.

My advice would be to leave it alone atm - comfort at bedtime is so important at her age You could try changing to a cup "for big girls" if it the bottle that bothers you but personally I would leave her for a while longer - enjoy the close time

I use these instead of bottles at bedtime for milk. Have found them really good.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 17/01/2010 20:19

2.2yo DS has it still, but brush teeth after. Keep trying to switch it for a cup but he barely drinks any milk if we do that, and he's such a skinny monkey he needs all the calories we can get into him...

biggirlsdontcry · 17/01/2010 20:37

coolma again you are not on your own my dd also asks for it during the day , but wont if anyone is here , she made that mistake once while a sort of new friend of mine was here & my friend made fun of dd calling her a baby etc , dd has very bad eczema & i really do think its a comfort thing with her .

Oh thank you all so much for your replies. I feel so much better now.
It's just such a special time of the day where we get to be together without any other distractions. (and tbh, the only time he's still for that length of time!)
