DD2 is 2 1/2 weeks, I'm in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate advice!
Woke the night before last with high temp, achey legs, crashing headache and a sore but not swollen or red boob. Thought it must be mastitis so went to gp who said it was probably mastitis or poss a virus (although I haven't been anywhere or had any visitors). She gave me antibiotics. Felt really dreadful last night - really high temp and just awful. But today my temp is a bit lower and I don't feel quite so whacked but my other boob is now really achey after feeding, kind of behind the nipple like the let down feeling but worse and lasting longer. Also bleeding has got heavier and getting a few 'afterpain' type feelings again + lower backache.

Any suggestions?

sorry i cant help either hopefully one of the experts will be along soon.

www.kellymom.com is a really good website for all things about bf if you are up to having a read & finding stuff out for yourself.

i remember how hard those early weeks are - believe me it does get easier just not overnight! Maybe ring your community midwife & get her to pop round tomorrow?

I can't really be of much help but just wanted to say that the afterpains can go on for a while as can lower backpain - think about what your body has gone through. If you are on antibiotics hopefully they should sort out any mastitis. It can take a while for your boobs to settle down especially as your milk supply is building. You're probably aware but if your baby is feeding more frequently this will often increase the bleeding as the feeding stimulates the uterus to contract.
Most importantly though if you don't feel right then you are the best judge so don't worry about phoning the doctor again if you're not happy - that's what they are therefore.
Congrats on the baby and hope you feel better soon.

I had a thought, if you massage your breast towards your nipple when the baby is feeding that can help clear your blocked ducts, always worth a try to ease ache?

Congratulations on the birth of your baby by the way, hope it's all going swimmingly for you x
