night feed lying down-do you wind after?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone winds their baby after breastfeeding while half asleep at night? I've been trying to feed lying down the last couple of nights but ds (8wks) gets bad wind anyway and the last couple of days he has been quite sick about 10mins after feeding. Do i get him up to wind or does this just defeat the object of staying lying down???

I never did tbh Ihad bedside cot and just rolled over and popped nipple in! wind was never a problem really but a quiet winding would do no harm, good luck.

Nope, I never winded DD at all, definitely not after she'd fed to sleep (would only feed to sleep)

Beasknees · 11/01/2010 18:17

sometimes yes sometimes no - buy usually by about 4.30/5 am ish he's full of gas and won't settle until he's been well and truly burped and patted and cajoled into getting the last bit out.

AngryFromManchester · 11/01/2010 18:18

no i never did either

I prop DS up over my hip (whilst still lying down). Then pat gently until he burps then roll him over into the bedside cot. He barely wakes from a doze during this, but would wake with a sore tummy after 20 minutes othewise.

Have 3 girls, currently one of 12 weeks. Have never winded and not any problems. Only feed lying down in early morning as she tends to fall asleep really quickly when in bed with me so if in middle of night she will not get a full feed and be asking for more a few hours later.

I never winded ds either

BertieBotts · 11/01/2010 18:37

I didn't usually but he went through a windy period - I used to roll over onto my back so he was laying on my tummy, and stroke his back which made him fart!

ladylush · 12/01/2010 10:15

no not at night

Lymond · 12/01/2010 10:49

I roll DS onto my tummy and rub his back until his wind is up, then roll him back onto his side next to me (co-sleep). I needed to do this from newborn - 3months ish.

If I could hear or feel the wind in DD as she fed, or if she'd had a "windy" day, I would wind her at night. Most of the time she was fine, though - they gulp less when they are half asleep

Ineedsomesleep · 12/01/2010 22:38

I didn't with DD unless I could hear the wind rolling around. Most times she would just roll over and snore.

Morloth · 13/01/2010 17:37

I never winded DS. He always did it quite nicely all by himself (from both ends).

IWishIWasAFrog · 14/01/2010 14:28

No, but tbh I try and feed lying down with most feeds, I find that DS (now 14 weeks) feeds much easier lying down with less wind overall, have a very fast let down reflex and the milk really gushes when it starts flowing, found that he copes etter with lying down. Will wind in the day but not at night. Feeding this way is a godsend for me - enjoy!

StealthPolarBear · 14/01/2010 14:29

I'm going to miss that when DD is older, feeling the little wind bubbles in her stomach

marram · 15/01/2010 11:14

I have to wind, does defeat purpose a bit but needs to be done otherwise just wakes again. Still having to at 24 weeks!

MumtoEliane · 15/01/2010 11:29

I formula feed (which gives them more wind), since DD stopped having colics I don't wind her at night and she is happy enough to go back to sleep. The wind comes out the other end normlly next morning . But I did burp her when she had colic as I had the impression that it was the wind in her gut what gave her pain (I insist that was my feeling, don't know the exact causes fo colic)

Much as it is tempting to plonk a sleepy DS back in his basket, I do find that 5 mins later I generally get some screaming and have to get up and decide - still hungry or wind?
If I wind I rock him forwards onto my hand and rub / pat, amd generally he looks half dead and I can then put in him bed awake, he may grizzle for a couple of mins, but will then sleep for a few hours.
