best medication for thrush in baby/breast

Can someone advise which medication ie nystatin/daktarin etc is best for eradicating thrush in baby (tongue) and mum (breast).

I have a doctor appt at 9.30am and they never know which medication is best so I thought I'd go armed with some knowledge. Last time I had thrush they told me to use a pessary and said it would all clear up by itself (this was with my first baby)

Please help as the pain in my breasts is worse than last time and I don't want to give up breastfeeding because of this.

Take the bfn leaflet on thrush with you. GPs are notoriously ignorant with thrush. You need the fluconazole oral treatment and baby needs daktarin gel.

There are loads of threads on here about thrush - there's lots more you need to do to eradicate it completely e.g. take probiotics etc.

Our oral/ breast thrush didn't clear up until my dd got a fluconazole suspension and I also took fluconazole capsules. She had two course of Nystatin and I had two lots of fluconazole before this but her thrush stayed put. She was only a couple of months at the time and the GP seemed a little surprised that she could prescribe the fluconazole for her- I took the bfn leaflet along and she then consulted her book! Worked quickly and much easier than applying the gel. I realise it is a bit late for your appointment but thought I would add this just in case it doesn't clear up with whatever the GP prescibes today.

Thanks for yr response picante . I printed off the leaflet and took it to my doctor who was very reluctant to prescribe fluconazole. In the end she would only give me a single dose of 150mg and some daktarin gel.

iloveteacakes I seriously doubt she would have been willing to prescribe the oral suspension for the baby but thanks for the info - am thinking of changing my doctor so may have better luck with a new one!
