Guess just how much the NHS values breastfeeding support?

My sister is just about to start a new job as a b/f adviser for the NHS. 20 hours a week for the grand sum of £5k a year!

Shows how much importance they place on it... at those rates, you can only do the job if you are what they used to call 'working for pin money' i.e. someone else in the house works full-time in a reasonably-paid job.

I wonder if there are any other NHS posts that pay so badly, or whether it's just b/f that doesn't matter? Surely the cleaners must be on more? (Although cleaning is contracted out so not quite comparable, I guess?)

oops, I slipped up and called him dp further down. Don't tell him! (But do tell him to learn how to use apostrophes, surely that matters when studying texts for his subject?)

Am off to bed but has been v. nice to bump into you. When I was saying night night to ds, he was asking if we could make a surprise visit to you tomorrow. Obviously it's your hospitality he appreciates and not the new train set at all...

bouncingturtle don't be too disheartened, i did my peer support training when ds was a baby (he is 5 now) and learnt a lot in the time i have been doing it, i can only affford to do the job now because dd's nursery will be almost free from april.

although it is a badly paid job, i am confident that it will be a lovely (and very worthwhile) one

aww bless him edam. when you come for my birthday he can play trains as much as he likes - my ds was trying to get our neice to play trains but funnily enough she wasn't keen and much prefered playing fairies with dd!

night x

no, niece is definitely her own person who will NOT bow down to her maternal genes and develop an obsession with things that run on rails.

what band is the job as it does seem very very low! All NHS posts are banded according to "agenda for change" - which takes into account the skills/qualifications required, the level of accountability/responsibility - but not the actual "value" placed on the job unfortunately!

Fab news Jackiewrappingpaper. I knew you were thinking of applying, but hadn't heard that you'd got the job. Congratulations. You will be brilliant at it. I presume it's normal (ish) working hours as well, which will be lovely after your night shifts.

When do you start?
