B/feeders - when did you get your period back?

If you don't mind my asking? Did you have to night wean?

My daughter is 14 months and has access day and night. She feeds less frequently in the day but is fed to sleep for most naps (or slung) and is on the breast on and off all night, sometimes for long periods.

When she's 15 months I'm back at work for three days a week and DH will look after her, but at the beginning will bring her to my work for a feed as we settle down to a new routine.

Will they ever come back? Will I have to night wean or should they appear some time in the next six months?

I'm not eager to get pregnant right away but I would like to envisage being fertile some time in the next year as at my age (38) I don't want to leave the chance of another child too late. But at the same time I don't want to stop b/feeding my daughter.

Umm mine didn't between DD and DS (and I tandem fed for quite a while) and they have only just come back with DS properly (he's 16 months). Night weaning hadn't (sadly) happened when I conceived DS (god knows when we had the time frankly!)

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/12/2009 18:03

With dd I got my first period 2 weeks after she started occasionally sleeping through the night, at 9 months. She still fed copious times during the day.

With ds I got them back around 10 or 11 months. He was still feeding in the night (once or twice) and during the day (3 - 4 times iirc). I only had one period and then got pregnant again!

dorisbonkers · 29/12/2009 18:03

So I take it I could get pregnant without periods (god I can't believe I sound so ignorant)

Not that I fancy it much, with all the constant feeding

Oh yes, I was still feeding dd too when they came back after having ds, but only once a day I think by then.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/12/2009 18:05

You could get pregnant from your first ovulation, without ever getting a period, yes.

whomovedmychocolate · 29/12/2009 18:06

Yup. I actually got pregnant the month before I conceived DS but miscarried at five weeks, but was pregnant three weeks later with DS (who is currently hitting me with a train!)

Pannacotta · 29/12/2009 18:06

Mine came back after 6-7 months with both DSs even though both were fed lots day and night.
Was a bit peed off actually, thought I might get a bit of a longer break!

I also have a condition called Ashermans (inter-uterine adhesions caused by removal of endometrium) which I had post a rough D&C for a miscarriage a few years back in the UK. It took a few years of doing the rounds of doctors to no avail in the UK and I had surgery eventually in Singapore, had a year's HRT and got my periods and within two months conceived my daughter.

I'm just a little concerned that I may still have issues as at 14 months I would have thought I'd have ovulated.

Thing is, doctors I saw (and they were many) were useless when it came to Asherman's in London so hope and pray all is well as I can't afford a trip back to my ob/gyn in Singapore!

I should explain that you ovulate with Ashermans, just that because the womb has effectively stuck together, nothing can come out as a period.

I don't think it is that though, as I still got preiod pains -- just no period. I've had no pains at all.

My dd was 18 months old before I got my period, she didn't feed at night from about 4 weeks but did feed loads & lads in the day.
My friend's dd was 20 months before she got hers & she did night wean & then got her period.

I know several people who have become pregant on their first ovulation ie no period!

Think everyone's body is very different but at 14 months it's very common not to have started periods.

sybilfaulty · 29/12/2009 20:24

I have jut had my first period today in 3 and a half years (and 2 children!). DS is nearly 13 months and rarely feeds at night. DD2 is 3 in March and I got pregnant with him without a period after DD2! So it can happen and you should take evasive action if you don't want to be pregnant. If you do, it's fine but you will only have scan dates to work on.

DD1 - fed all the bloody time, day and night, til she was weaned at 18 months (with me 3 months preg and vomiting for Britain). Got my period with her when she was 10 months.

HTH.

Thanks guys, I thought 14 months was on the unusual side, but you've reassured me. Cheers

21 months here, have been working 3 days a week since he was 10 mos, still feeding in the night...sometimes all night...

Elfytigga · 29/12/2009 20:34

6 months I was very as they appear to have come back with all the PMS I use to get ages ago. DS feeds day and night on demand.

Rhian82 · 29/12/2009 20:39

Mine came back at around 8 months I think. We night weaned at 6.5 months.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 29/12/2009 20:40

DD1 was 11 months when I got pregnant with DD2, no periods.
DD2 was 21 months when she weaned and my periods came back when she was about 16 months, 4 months after I stopped feeding her at night.
