nearly 26 weeks - low supply, weaning worries..

Stared on baby rice and a small amount of solids at 24 weeks - about 10 days ago on the advice of my HV to see if it made a difference to sleep (it has a bit).

We started off giving food in the evening - but noticed that he was getting a bit windy over night so moved it to 11am.

However now my supply is low in the evening - leading to an unsettled baby at this time - and not much milk is coming out when I express.
I am anxious that weaning is going to mess up my supply and mean I will need to give up BF. He won't take a bottle - tho will take 10mls or so of formula from a free flow cup.

I want to carry on with BF for a bit as he has to go to hospital for awhile in a few months and want him to get the benefits from me while this happens.

Can any one help? Do you think the BF lines are a good port of call? Or am I being unduly anxious?
Is the issue that we started offering solids in the evening and then moved them to earlier in the day? How much solids are too much?
Want to do a mixed puree/finger food type approach rather than BLW as scared of choking risk - well DH especially - and also cos he is not quite 6months yet.

Thanks for wading through that lot anyone who has made it!

Try not to worry, nature has a brilliant way of sorting itself out and your supply will adapt to weaning. My DD is now 12MO and I felt like my supply was getting low in the evening (she always refused a bottle too) but then it suddenly increased for no apparent reason. She eats like a horse and has done since we started weaning (we did BLW).

They seem to develop quickly at 6 months (starting to sit up/ teething etc) so that might be why your DS is unsettled.

Also, great idea to BF for when he's in hospital, when they are poorly they go off food but somehow can always manage some milk

Thank you!
Had just got my head round BF - baby had started feeding in more of a pattern rather than totally randomly - and now having to get my head round weaning is a whole new ballgame!
By unsettled I just meant ultrahungry and wanting to cluster feed like when he was younger this evening, and got all worried that it was due to me moving the feeds around. He still had an evening meal but it was a tiny amount of rice and puree.

I think what is confusing is that there are so many ways of doing weaning - that reading about it does not make it any clearer - then I worried I was doing it "wrong".
Then I remembered that main calories are meant to be from milk anyway - then got worried that he was not getting enough due to supply issues.

Weaning seems to be a bit of a hit and miss thing really. With BF I got quite a lot of help as was in hospital for awhile as LO was poorly - but this starting food business feel a bit left to make it up as I go along. Which is fine but worry that baby might not get enough food. I know that is the advantage of BLW - but honestly would worry so much about choking esp as he is a bit young for it.

I guess i will just try to BF him as much as possible and keep supply up and hope that helps!

I think the best thing with weaning is to go with the flow, as long as you offer a variety of things then DS will be fine (I can say this now though, but spent months worrying too!!) x
