Hi
I've just about cut out the last two breast feeds per day (night time and morning) with my 16 mth dd.
She eats a well balanced diet of solids but won't seem to substitute milk from me for milk from a cup or bottle.
My query is when I stop breast feeding completely will she be getting enough milk/calcium from yogurts and cheese etc or does she need to have some milk feeds as well?

Any advice much appreciated!

she won't need 'milk feeds' as such, and IME cuddles or one-to-one quiet time are usually a better substitute for a bf than milk for toddlers this age.

But I'd keep offering milk as a drink (cold with breakfast, warm at bedtime, whatever) as well as cheese and yoghurts as it is still a good source of calcium etc.

Thanks for that.

The only thing is, and it's worried me a bit for a while, is that she doesn't seem to drink much at all be it water juice or milk. About half a cup per day at best - is this OK especially as there will be no bf soon?

my dd hardly drinks anything, having drunk loads of milk up until weaning at 1.11. i was at the doctors with her once because i thought she had a bladder infection, he did not seem at all bothered that she didn't seem to drink, nor did he think that might be her problem.

i don't know what i'm trying to say, except you can lead a horse to water... a different doc did mention she may need to drink more as she wasn't eating when ill recently, so i inferred that there's more liquid in food than you might imagine. and yes, i think it's a commonly held belief that there's enough calcium etc in cheese + yoghurt for the child that does not drink milk.

ps my friend's dd doesn't drink either, but is only ever given water, except on special occasions. although i would like to attain these high standards i do not, and give milk, fruit juice, smoothie and would buy squash, except she doesn't drink that either...

I glad to hear there are more camels out there than just mine!
