I feel like a Milking Cow!!!!

I gave birth 3 weeks ago by emergency C section and as a result had loads of problemstrying 2 establish breast feeding.

My baby is only waking once or twice overnight 4 a feed, but during the day, is on the breast almost constantly, prolonged feeding (an hour plus), insists on falling asleep on the breast then latches off herself. But then when I put her down thinking she must have had enough, wakes up shortly after and demands another feed!

My nipples were sore 2 begin with but then eased off, now they are getting sore again.

I developed Mastitis on Saturday which seems 2 have cleared up now ? with the help of antibiotics.
She is only just above her birth weight but midwife discharged her yesterday, saying she looked well and was a good colour. This hasn't really put my mind at rest though, my next breastfeeding clinic is not until Monday now and HV is not coming til Tuesday so am desperate for advice and reassurance.

I'm a first time Mum and this is getting me down, like I say - I just feel like a milking cow!!!!!
Can anyone help please????

Hi,

I had my son by em c section 11 weeks ago and it took us a little while too - especially as he had a tongue tie as well for the first week.
Hopefully someone expert will be able to advise you, but 3 weeks is a common time for a growth spurt, I was doing nothing but feeding for a few days.

He lost >10% of his birth weight at first and took a couple of weeks to get it back. He is now a monster and has moved up several centiles on the growth chart.

Good luck and hopefully all will settle down for you.

I think my nipples got a bit worn out too - I got through a lot of Lansinoh cream at first.

learnermamma - could it be your baby just wants to be close to you, and resists longer 'settling' 'cos she likes being next to you rather than in the crib/baskt?

This is normal in a tiny baby...and especially in one who has had a bit of a slow start to bf
