5m old so fussy when feeding, crying etc - at my wits end

I'm hoping that experts like Tiktok will be able to help with this, please!

Been ebf my DD, she's just over 5 months. All been going fine, but in the last couple of weeks she's been getting really upset when I feed her during the day, crying almost as soon as she starts feeding, sounds like she's complaining into my boob. I take her off, she cries, put her back she cries. It's getting so that I'm worried she's not getting enough and I'm starting to dread feeding her during the daytime. It's odd because she's fine when she wakes to feed in the night (only wakes once usually) and is ok feeding before bedtime in the evening and usually first thing in morning. She doesn't seem any different or unhappy between feeds, and doesn't seem any hungrier than usual.

Is this normal behaviour at this stage?? I really don't want to move to ff.

Are you sure she's hungry? I had this with one of my twins, I was trying to feed him when he wasn't hungry because I was preoccupied with trying to get their weights up and was told to feed every 3 hours. Is it all the daytime feeds?

Or, she might be teething? Is she snotty/got a fever or red cheeks? Can you see any teeth coming through?

Has she/you got any thrush?

Got no other ideas atm. Hope someone else'll be along soon.

Hi there,

Some of us have had the same problem with 4 mo old! See the thread in br/bottle feeding. I' m still struggling. Exactly the same story-fine feeding at night but nightmare during the day/pulling on&off/crying/sobbing.

No suggestions really apart from a big hug.

Thanks for replies .

I'm pretty sure she should be hungry as not feeding more often than every 3 or 4 hours, usually closer to 4 these days. I don't think she's teething as she doesn't really have any other symptoms and isn't like this at night. Not thrush either....sigh....is really getting me down . Will get her looked at on Thursday by hv at Children's Centre and get her weighed to check that she's getting enough milk.

Species - usual reason for a baby of this age objecting to being offered a feed is the obvious one...baby doesn't want it.

Very well-established breastfeeding may only happen once every four hours or even less - varies massively among individuals, of course, but it's not abnormal.

Thanks tiktok ! Didn't realise that could be a posible reason. Maybe I should stop when she's like that and try again a little bit later. It does make as much sense as anything else, in terms of how she is other than the feeding.
