Should I continue to BF baby thro a cold?

I have a really bad cold and sore throat. Feel pretty dreadful. I'm excl bf DD who is 11 weeks. Am I better off continuing to BF her and hope she doesn't get it, or should DH try to feed her from a bottle with formula - she doesn't seem to take EBM from a bottle.
TIA

Continue to breastfeed her. No question.

If she's going to catch the cold off you, she will, but breastfeeding could actually help prevent that happening (or make the cold less severe if it does) as a result of the immunity you pass on.

DH can help you by looking after her the rest of the time and bringing her to you for feeds. That will help you rest.

Def better to feed her, she will get your immunity as you develop it.

Thanks - that's what I'd hoped.

Keeping bf - the last thing you need is to end up with blocked ducts from skipping feeds.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oh dear, sorry to hear your poorly, there's a lot of it about at the moment isn't there? My DD (9mths) and I have just weathered a particularly rubbish virus with earache, sore throat, the trots, snot etc etc !

I'm afraid it's quite likely your LO will probably catch your cold anyway whether you BF her or not and with your breast milk comes lots of lovely antibodies, so you're best to continue. If you stop you'll have the pain of engorged boobs and potentially blocked ducts to add to your woe and also run the risk of your supply dwindling. I carried on feeding my daughter through her being ill and felt it seemed to comfort her and soothe her sore throat.

Don't forget, in a week you'll have Auntie Calpol to turn to

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
xx

Our Calpol says two months plus (just lower dose to 3 months) so could give that a try if the cold does hit...
