Reusable breast pads

I feel it's ironic that while I'm using reusable nappies I'm giving lots of money to Mothercare for their disposable breast pads (the ultra thin ones). But the Mothercare and Avent reusable ones I've tried have been rubbish (Avent - very visible circles under clothes, leak and too small area-wise; Mothercare - leak through straight away). Anything out there that's any better?

i got some from boots which were fine - but i don't leak much. they weren't expensive either.

A lot of the nappy manafacturers make them, have you tried weenotions?

Taramuddle · 03/12/2009 13:21

Lasinoh are the best IMO, money well spent

Hi chocolatemoose, I felt the same & I use the mothercare ones (for 14 months now ), but they are rubbish. I usually don't leak now, but until recently I used to wear 2 each side and even then I'd sometimes still leak through.

Didn't realise weenotions made them, will have to have a look. Always meant to get some of those lilypadz(sp?) things to try but never got round to it.

I would second the recommendation for the boots ones, But - make sure you wash them in the little net bag thing. Our washing machine was leaking and when DH took it apart we found 3 1/2 in there that had blocked it up and made it all leaky

Hmmm... I got the Boots ones and found them to be rubbish - if they stayed in place (unlikely) the milk leaked from the bottom of them. I only tried them a few times before going back to disposable so maybe there's a knack I missed.

deffo try the cloth nappy companies. People who spend a lot of time figuring out how to soak up 4 hours worth of wee have no bother with a little breastmilk!

I've been using the Boots ones--okay during the day, but rubbish at night when they slip round and can't cope with the volume of leakage.

My lovely mum actually made me some - she drew circles in an oldish towel (not harsh one but not too fluffy either! Kind of inbetween).

She then sewed 2 together around the edge using the zigzag setting on her sewing machine.

She made me absolutely loads and they are still going strong on my second baby. Infact a good friend used them inbetween my two daughters!

She has recently made me some luxury ones - a circle of towel sandwiches between 2 circles of flannelette and sewed together.

I recently went away and forgot to pack some so had to buy some disposable ones - they were appalling!
