Confused - how much to pump when I go back to work?

I'm going back 3.5 days in January when dd will be 6months.

She has five feeds a day at the moment so presume I'll need to pump at the same time as the usual three during the day?

And if I can't express enough then can nursery give her the ebm first and top up with formula?

But as she has more solids, will she have fewer daytime milk feeds? When does this start?

Many thanks

You'll need to pump the same number of times as she has feeds - the exact timing doesn't really matter.

Yes, they could just top up with formula if you needed them to.

She'll drop feeds at some point - you just never know if they will scorn EBM and wait for you, or happily guzzle it in the day and keep those feeds going. I don't think DS dropped a feed until 9 months, but then had dropped all day feeds by 14 months

Are you sorted with a good pump and comfortable with it now ? One thing that no one tells you is that by hand expressing at the end of the pumping session (and doing breast compressions during) you can really up the milk extraction which helps your supply and the amount you have to give nursery

Hi, I've returned to work while breastfeeding 2 of my babies. With the first I was v studious and expressed equal amounts. With the second I didn't bother unless I was really uncomfortable. I never had any issues with supply - in fact, he was quite happy as I was obviously full when I got to see him. My body seemed to adjust quite well to the new timetable. I must mention that I was only working 2 or 3 days a week not full time. HTH. x
