Baby only has ten minute feeds

My 6 week old dd has always enjoyed short feeds -10 mins - bar cluster feeding in the evening when she will feed for up to 40 mins. I have fast flow and she has a strong suck - so i think she is getting enough milk. Gaining weight, plenty of wet nappies.

I am confused though, as I don't think she finishes a boob each feed. So, she may have a ten minute feed on the right boob, fall asleep (can't wake her), wake up again an hour later (say) for another feed.

Because i think she hasn't 'exhausted' the right boob on the previous feed, i put her back on that one.

Is that right? Because this way the left boob doesn't get a look in for hours. Should I ignore the fact that the right boob hasn't 'emptied' and go for the left one anyway?

Does that make sense?!? Yabbering slightly...

just alternate them at each feed. Your breasts never "empty"

my dd is also a very qucik feeder but seems to be efficient. if she wants more within the hour or so, i offer the same breast, otherwise i just swap each feed.

I have a similar thing with a similar aged DS! My current approach if it helps is that he it feels as though he has had a good feed - breast soft/ came off of his own accord and not because he was coughing etc, I put him on the other side for the next feed.

If he is fiddling around and not feeding properly - breast not softening and he keeps latching on, doing a couple of sucks and pulling off again, I use that breast again if he wants other feeds within 2 hours of that snack.

Seems to be working at the moment.

How is her weight gain? I would switch boobs for every feed, unless you're struggling with oversupply (lumpy boobs, and jetting let down that makes her come off and splutter).

If you switch boobs at each feed, you'll keep your milk supply up. Don't worry too much, sounds like she's doing well if gaining weight and well hydrated.
