breastfeeding and limiting carb intake - problem?

dc3 is 9wo and bfing exclusively. Am planning to do much the same with this baby as the previous 2 - bf until 10-12 months but introduce late night formula feed around 5-6 months, around the same time as first purees

Only difference is that this time am super keen to lose weight. Bfing doesn't do it for me, I don't tend to lose until I start to drop bfs. Am already vegetarian but am now limiting carb intake as well and thinking of cutting out altogether which would basically leave me eating veg and fruit only (I know fruit is a carb but will not go so far as to cut it out!!)

Could this have adverse effect on bm quality/ supply do you think?

I don't think it would affect your milk, as apparently quite malnourished women can breastfeed.

But I don't think it would be very good for your health and might make you more tired? it sounds like a very low calorie diet, are you having cheese, pulses, quorn/soya type stuff?

no ... I don't eat dairy.

Sometimes pulses but I tend to count these as a carb. No quorn/ soya stuff - don't like it.

Am not tired though! Baby is a good sleeper, fortunately!

I just want to make sure he's getting enough milk and that it's good quality.

Consider where you'd get your calcium from, too. Otherwise there is a danger you end up slim and osteoporotic. Not a good look .

Milk quality is virutually unaffected by what you eat, supply more dependent on demand. Obviously drink to thirst.

Your diet already sounds quite restrictive. Could you talk to a dietician/nutritionist how to do this safely?

BTW, I never lost weight whilst BFing, but had no problems at all losing it after I stopped. A bit weird, but there you go.

I also hate quorn(with a passion) but found I quite like the Asda meat-free range-have you tried that? The meatballs are delicious.

I'm the same, Pacific - my body clings on to the fat with fierce determination while I"m bfing exclusively ... the minute I drop a bf or two, it drops off.

Thing is, I don't want to wait until next year to get back to 'normal'

The problem with a lot of the meat-free stuff is that they contain gluten ... which I also don't eat.

Nuts I can do, for protein. They're good for calcium too, no?

Not sure re nuts and calcium, I am no expert.

As I normally am greedy pig eat everything, I can lose weight by cutting out all crap ie empty calories.

Seafood and fish? Do you eat that?
I am running out of ideas...

Sesame seeds are a good source of calcium! Oranges have some in too.

So you really live up to your name then!

I agree with the others here, won't affect your milk but might make you feel like shit, though obviously in smaller jeans.

Sesame seeds and oranges, cool. Also, pretty sure that most green leafy veg have calcium - I eat masses of kale.

Thing is, I don't really eat anything, ever, that could be considered empty calories. So I'm limited in what I can cut out.

argh ... just want to be 10 stone again ... without being a crap mother!!

Just cut out the 'big' carbs like bread, pasta and rice.. allow yourself the odd jacket potato or if you want to be really strict.. bake the potato,scoop out the middle and eat the skins loaded with salad or veg.
Dark leafy green veg is indeed full of calcium, sweet potato and lentils are a good source of protein. Eat lots of pulses, while the have carbs they are also packed full of goodies that you need.
I hate quorn but I do like Linda McCartney sausages occasionally. We are a meat/dairy free house and I am on a diet and also breastfeeding..albeit a 2 year old!!
