Go for hi carb foods. pasta, rice, bread etc. I ate the bags of fruit and nut, cereal bars, bowl of cereal, drank lots of milk (for the vitamins & calcium - full fat)
Toasties for lunch make a change, jacket spuds and cheese are easy.
It's normal to be hungry and this is no time to diet. Just make sure u eat good things not crisps, sweets etc.

I hve always been slim and struggle to keep weight on. My son is 9.5months and im back to a size 8 and have been for some time. I was always hungry too.

Eat good healthy slow release stuff. Pasta and oats etc.

Make sure you are drinking enough because thirst feels like hunger first. You need to drink rather a lot to stay well hydrated when bfing. When you're hungry have a drink and wait for half an hour.

If you are worried about it in relation to weight gain; I am still bf my 18 month old and have gone through periods when I am really hungry. I sometimes make up huge quantities of vegetable soup or something like that - filling, nutritious and not too fattening. At 19 weeks I wouldn't worry too much - if you are breastfeeding after the weaning stage then they may be feeding a bit less anyway and your appetite may reduce naturally. I have also, in the past, made up big milkshakes with lots of berries (frozen ones are fairly cheap) and a banana and skimmed milk. This sometimes helped if I have been hungry mid morning.

I am not particualarly virtuous though - I often cave in and have a few biscuits!

This is my 3rd DC and with each I have found that my appetite has dropped after about 5/6 months even though I have stil benn BFing beyond that time.

I should add that having re-read my post it sounds like I have cut out carbs or something! If I was having the soup for lunch I would have bread with it, or soup would have some carb content.

OH buggar I've just had a phone call telling me I've won the chruch fair christmas hamper full of FOOD and Champagne!!!

I am getting a bit worried about eating loads- but I'm still loosing weight and am the slimmest I've ever been- I'm just worried if I stop Bfeeding weight will pile on / my appeptite won't change.

I'm still excersizing about 4 - 5 times a week (for stress relief more than anything) and don't want to give up but I'm finding I just can't get full!!

I will try your suggestions- I'm usually a bit of a carb phobe so will try to boost them as this may be the key I believe.

Now I've got to resist the 2 boxes of choc's, 2 boxes of posh biscuits, 2 bottles of champagne, 2 bottles of wine and christmas cake, pudding and numerous other things in the hamper next to me!!!

One of the brilliant things about breastfeeding . In my experience, the problem comes when they start dropping feeds and you are still eating a packet of biscuits a day as your snack!

ShowOfHands · 28/11/2009 20:25

Look to help you out, honestly, just cos it's you, I'll take that hamper off your hands. You can keep the champers though. Actually just send me the Christmas pudding.

I'm still bfing my 2.6yr old and she has recently cut down to night feeds only. My appetite has decreased proportionally. I also exercise 4/5 times a week and am the slimmest/fittest I have ever been although bfing alone didn't remove any of the weight even though I ate very healthily and was active. I took up running, serious running.

Don't worry. You'll be fine. Have some carbs.

I'll await the Xmas pud with excitement.

I SO remember this! I was absolutely starving all the time and it did feel quite overwhelming.

Tbh I think you just have to go with it and do your best to eat as healthily as you can. Most people lose weight when they're bf and can pretty much eat what they like (within reason!).

I'd also try to make sure you are drinking enough water. I found it quite hard to drink enough in the early days.

Also, getting out for some good walks will help you feel more control over the situation.

Longtalljosie · 29/11/2009 08:10

My main tip would be just to keep eating! You don't say you're worried about your weight - so provided you're not, there really isn't a problem.
