her latest blog entry - authorsplace.co.uk/clare-byam-cook/blog/

So, does the NCT BFC course only take 3 days then? No practical experience at all? Really?

I think what she's saying is valid if the skills that someone learned in the classroom weren't helpful in RL. She's just saying that the courses aren't always hitting the spot, and perhaps she's right?

I'm an NCT member by the way and think that a lot of what they do is excellent. They're not infallible though

it takes several years to qualify as an nct bfc, including practical work with bf mothers more info

I've pointed out here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/867675-CBC-on-another-NCT-bashing-session how wrong it is to imply that NCT bfcs train in three days and without any practical experience or training.

An NCT antenatal teacher - whose training is in antenatal education - would not normally go to someone's house to help with breastfeeding, still less teach hand expression. If she did go to do this, she would be stepping way outside her boundaries, and could only visit as a friend. She could not visit saying she was an NCT breastfeeding counsellor, any more than I could say I was an NCT antenatal teacher.

I don't know who this teacher was that CBC spoke to, but the whole story sounds iffy to me. NCT would not insure her to teach a bf mother hand expression, so what she was doing I really don't know.
