1 year old and penniless......what milk?

Gave up feeding my one year old about a week or so ago and still have a small supply. He very happily drinks a bottle and it has made my life so much easier.

However formula is very expensive, should I now give him full fat cows milk or re establish breast feeding, which meant waking twice a night and I have three other children. In addition I am very hormone induced moody when bf.

In short I had to decide whether to buy protein(meat/fish) or formula today.

WWYD?

Cow's milk is fine for 1 year old. I don't know anyone who gives formula to a baby over 1.

Cows milk - formula unecessary for over 1's

MamaG · 25/11/2009 10:29

My baby was 1 on 5/11 and doesn't drink formula OR cows milk, just water. I'd prefer him to drink cows milk, but he doesn't seem to want it, so I just try to give him a good balanced diet

Phew, I will wipe the sweat of guilt from my brow and buy some cows milk. I don't know why I've been so stupid. DS1&2 both gave up any milk or bottles at this age, dd however enjoyed a bottle until she was 2 ahem, 2.6!

posie I'm on DC3 and I keep asking stupid Qs - you'd think I'd know

MamaG · 25/11/2009 11:03

PS = beans & egg on toast is a good source of cheap protein

No my DH earns way too much to get any help and way too little for us to survive with some debts that we collected thinking he would earn big forever.....forgetting that he works for people with no idea of employment law.

That doesn't sound right at all Have you been to the CAB? Is there any way to reduce the debt repayments, even if it does mean it will take longer to pay them off overall? Sorry if you've already tried this.

Another moneysaving tip - clean out and save the 1-pint or 2-pint plastic milk bottles (whichever you manage to go through before it goes off) and then buy the largest (6-pint?) containers of milk, decant into the empty 1 pint or 2 pint bottles, put one in the fridge and the rest in the freezer.
