Will try and be brief, dd2 4.5 weeks old now, born at 37 weeks by emc. didn't latch in hosp, had formula top up anf ebm (hand exp) since home been ebf and was ok. then i had infection in my wound and a week on antibitotics. dd2 never been really good at feeding, had latch checked 2 weeks ago, changed feeding position, much better. had a few exhastive feeding session and dedied to intorduce a bottle alongside bf. taking both fine and switching between it not a problem for her. but last few days i've had pain in breast and she has whitey patches on her tounge. think from reading on here we have thrush and will see hv tom at weigh in. but am ready to give up completey, i know the benefits of bf but cant go on like this. just need hand holding while i come to terms with the yucky time i've had over last few weeks,

oh dear em, what a time you have had. do you think the hv will be helpful, do they know about bf?

there is a leaflet produced that i've seen linked to here before which suggests what treatment to ask for, hopefully someone else will know what i am on about.

re stopping bf, i found that persevering when i could 'legitimately' have done so was very rewarding. also i can't think of many other difficulties you could possibly encounter, so the only way is up.

This is probably the leaflet.
I hope things can only get better for you, the first few weeks can be really really tough, but it does get better, I promise.
See if you can get an apt with the GP asap for the thrush.

Thank you,

I saw the hv visitor this mornign who didn't think it was thrush, she couldn't see anything in dd2 mouth. she just said if it was she'd have lots of white spots in her mouth which don't scrape off. But having read the leaflet from bfn it says baby can be symptomless? She does have creamy white tounge and has started to pull off the breat a couple of times during a feed. My bbobs are tingly sore after feeding.

Should i visit the doc or wait a bit and see if it settles again?

When I had it DS didn't show any signs at all, but I definitely had it, sharp pains that went on for quite a while after feeding.

I actually got rid of it without medication through diet, you basically cut out all kinds of sugar, including fruit, for 5 days or so. After that go easy for a while. If you can cut down on refined carbs too that really helps. I realise that sounds a bit drastic though!

I have found that doctors aren't actually that clued up about this, so it might help to print out the leaflet if you do go to the GP.

Go to the Doc ASAP!

Daktarin worked for us (nystatin didn't)

Hope you get rid soon -it is horrible!
