Following on from the breast feeding doll, out of interest how many of you were told about what breasts are for during the birds and bees chat?

OK so during the 'chat' (if you had one) or sex ed, how many of you were told that breasts are for breast feeding? Periods, hard ons and 'special cuddles' are all discussed but where does it mention the development of breasts with the purpose of them being there is for feeding babies?

Just looked at the breast feeding baby link and the doc is taking about his daughter being very well educated and the above occured to me.

I don't know. I don't remember it but I must have been told because it didn't come as a shock what they were for. I guess it was covered very very briefly.

Not at school, am sure of that.

But having grown up seeing my mother and many of her friends breastfeed, I didn't need telling.

Never had "the chat" as my mother was always very open and honest about sex etc. As a result I just grew-up knowing and accepting the facts of life and about breastfeeding.

I am not sure how much I ever thought about breasts as feeding tools though. I was not even sure I wanted kids and I certainly never considered how I might feed them. However, as soon as I got pregnant I just assumed I would breastfeed and I expect that was because of the early model my mum provided.

Nope - not mentioned as far as I remember (but then I am verrry old). Never saw anyone breastfeed til I was in my mid twenties and my mate had her baby.

My little man, however, is being indoctrinated young. He was BF for nearly 14 months but came home the other day (aged 19 months) saying babies drink milk from bottles. I soon put him straight on that one and made sure he saw his "auntie" feeding her new baby. If he's ever a dad I want him to be as suportive as my hubby was.

I don't think anybody ever told me tbh but ds (4) asked me that very question as I got out of the shower this morning - "mummy, what are those squidgy things for?" He has seen me breastfeed his baby sister for 6 months but typical boy in his observation of the world around him! this question was also followed by "if you haven't got a willy where does the wee come out?" - not the kind of conversation I would choose before 7am in the morning but I did my best to put him straight
