Hi, my 8 week old has started getting more stressed out this week, I'm not sure if it is to do with him having a cold and feeling rubbish.

He was feeding a bit more often when his cold started over last weekend, he has started getting worked up sometimes now. He will finish feeding on one side then get all angry as if he is still hungry. I offer him the other side and he may or may not latch on, but usually gets angrier and cries, refusing more. if I walk around and pat/rub his back he eventually conks out and has a sleep for a while. (as he has done just now!)

He is quite happy most of the time when he is awake, he just doesn't seem to know what he wants. He can breathe ok to feed most of the time. we have used Nasosal drops to help him when he got clogged up.

Any ideas what is freaking him out?

thanks

Hi, don't if this will help or not but my DS is only 3 weeks and for the past few days i have used a soother. (i know it's against the rules before 4 wks if Bf but he is very content and we got to know him very quickly, however he started to get a bit unsettled after feeding and my DP kept saying he was still hungry about an hour after he had fed so i would latch him on again to find he'd take one mouthfull then fall asleep!!

I thought tat maybe he was then just feeding for comfort so next time i let him suck on my finger and this did the trick!!!

I had one of those tommytippee newborn soothers which has like a flat teat which he couldn't even get his mouth round so i took a trip to boots and got more of a dummy shaped teat (still for newborns) and he loves it!!! I think he just has more to suck on than the other!!

I would not look back now and i know some may forwn as it's very early days but he is not dependant on it and i certainly would not use it in an attempt to 'shut him up'. If he doesn't want it and needs either a feed or nappy change he simply won't tak it!! and afer a few mins of having it to soothe him to sleep he'll either drop it (even if still awake) or i can gently pull i out and he'll just drop off to sleep!!!

To me he just needed a comfort 'suck'.!!!

Hope that helps and if you're not completely 'anti dummy', give it a go!!!

Good luck
