Should I change to "hungrier baby" formula

My dd is 11 weeks, she has been a really good feeder right from the start but is now draining all of her 6 x 6 oz bottles and seems to want more after some of her bottles, I am wondering would it be better to move her to the hungrier baby formula rather than just moving to 7oz bottles????

I'd try 7oz of the first milk first and if she drains that, try 8oz.

my hv said to avoid the hungrier baby formula if you can help it. Better to up oz es and frequency. Can't remember why though so sorry not great advice!

As far as I remember, my old HV told me that the hungry baby formula can cause terrible constipation and although it says from birth on the packaging, is not advised for under 26 week babies. She also said that "they" were trying to have packaging wording cahnged to reflect this.
I would also recommend upping the oz's of milk rather than the move to hungry baby formula. We did this for DS and it worked really well, there is the possibility your DD is having a growth spurt so may be hungrier as a result of this.

She may be draining the bottles because she is thirsty - just increase to 7 or 8oz of your usual first. If you change to hungrier baby she will be getting more food but not more water and this can lead to the constipation mentioned above and a grumpy baby.

Thanks for the advice, I will up the oz's, I am worried with her having so much fod that she might gain too much weight, she doesn't look chubby but she is in 3-6 month clothes already, at the moment she's drinking 6 x 6oz bottles, will she gain too much weight if I up to 7 or 8 oz?? I was hoping she would drop a bottle before i moved up an oz!

a baby cant gain too much weight - i wish people would not pass on their own weight issues to their children (particularily girls!) They will lose any extra once they are moving about anyway.

Up the oz - if baby is getting bigger then she needs more milk - bigger baby=bigger stomach. HV said their should usually just be a little swig of milk left over in the bottle - if the bottle is drained then they are not getting enough.

Hi there my DS ate like a horse right from the start. As has already been said you don't need to worry about her putting on too much weight. I had to change DS bottles from 9oz to 11oz (found some done by Avent on internet called magmums I think). When he continued to drain these at 4.5 months I tried changing to hungry baby milk but it caused constipation very quickly.

I cut back on it and found that two bottles of the hungry baby milk (one a lunch time and one before bed) with the other bottles being regular formula were a good idea and meant he didn't need more than 11oz.

He was the hungriest thing- I was so glad when six months rolled on and he could have some food. By the way he still eats like a horse (unless hes having one of 'those' days) and hes pretty average size.

So if it was me I would just up the oz as needed.
